Meet The Artist

The Artist Behind the Worlds

WallTales was born from the hand of illustrator and designer Claire Knox — a mother of two whose work moves quietly between art, emotion and childhood imagination.

Claire began creating wallpapers while pregnant with her first child, designing a nursery that felt unisex, beautiful and true to her family’s personality. What started as a personal project soon revealed something deeper.

When her second child arrived, bedtime became a soft chaos of feeding a newborn while keeping a toddler entertained. Claire began using the wallpaper she’d illustrated to make up small stories — moments of connection that became a ritual.

A survival tactic turned emotional doorway.

Those early nights became the seed of WallTales.

Where Design Meets Emotion

Claire’s work begins with a feeling before it becomes a character.

A shy zebra, a courageous unicorn, a restless horse — each illustration is an emotional spark, a way for children to express what they can’t yet articulate.

Her practice is shaped by a simple belief:

Children reveal themselves through imagination, not interrogation.

WallTales’ wallpapers, books and prompts give families an easy way into that imagination — not with lessons, but with gentle invitations.

A Practice Rooted in Real Family Life

Claire’s approach is informed as much by motherhood as by art.

She understands the sound of bedtime negotiations, the wild joy of toddler storytelling, and the quiet magic of a child making up their own world. These moments shaped her creative philosophy:

Design should not perform childhood.

It should honour it.

Every world she illustrates is intentionally layered — calm on the surface, with characters who are odd, bold, shy or a little mischievous. Children contain multitudes; their worlds should too.

Crafted With Intention

Every WallTales product is:

Hand-illustrated by Claire.
Ethically produced.
Designed for emotional access, not just aesthetics.
Created to grow with a child rather than be outgrown.

Her storybooks — written and illustrated by Claire — reflect the worlds on the wall, weaving messages of confidence, self-love and emotional understanding into adventures inspired by real family life.

“When design and imagination meet, stories become rituals, and rituals become memories.”
